The transfer of Uzbekistan national team defender Abdukodir Khusanov to Manchester City has made headlines in football history. The English champions will pay the French club RC Lens €40 million as a transfer fee, along with an additional €10 million in bonuses, as per negotiations.
Statistics experts have pointed out an interesting comparison: the fee paid for Khusanov surpasses the total market value of many Asian national teams.
Asia’s Most Valuable National Teams (Transfermarkt Data):
- Japan: €280.5 million.
- South Korea: €158.15 million.
- Uzbekistan: €47 million.
- Iran: €46.65 million.
Australia comes fifth with a valuation of €39 million. Other nations like the UAE (€35 million), Qatar (€18.98 million), Saudi Arabia (€18.85 million), China (€13.5 million), and North Korea (€5.8 million) rank much lower.
A New Record for Uzbekistan and Central Asia:
Previously, Eldor Shomurodov’s 2021 transfer to AS Roma for €19.6 million was the most expensive deal in Uzbekistan football history. Now, Khusanov’s €40 million move sets a new record for Central Asian football.
