A historic milestone has been reached in European football — the English Premier League will become the first league to have six clubs in the UEFA Champions League for the 2025/26 season. This was confirmed after the Europa League finalists were announced.
UEFA ranking secures extra spot
According to the UEFA club coefficient rankings, England has secured no lower than second place in the national association table. This automatically grants the country a fifth Champions League spot in addition to the regular four.
As a result, the team that finishes fifth in the Premier League will now earn a place in the Champions League qualifying stage — making the top-5 battle even more intense.
Europa League final offers another route
Two English teams — Manchester United and Tottenham — have reached the final of the Europa League. The winner will receive a direct ticket to the Champions League group stage.
Since both teams have struggled in the league, this final could be their only route to Europe’s top competition.
Abduкodir Khusonov and Manchester City benefit
Uzbek defender Abduqodir Husonov currently plays for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side is third in the league standings and targeting Champions League qualification.
The new format with six English teams significantly increases City's chances, and adds excitement for Uzbek fans and players alike.
