In a match from round 36 of the Italian championship, Napoli hosted Genoa and had to settle for a 2–2 draw. Currently, the Neapolitans are leading Serie A, but this result has reduced the gap between them and their closest pursuer, Inter, to just 1 point. This situation has further intensified the race for the title.
After the match, Napoli head coach Antonio Conte expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance but did not hide his disappointment with the result:
“Genoa only had two shots on target, and both resulted in goals. Football is such a game that sometimes you play much better than your opponent, create many chances, but the result doesn’t go your way. Today we found ourselves exactly in that kind of situation, and that makes me upset. Based on the chances we created, we definitely deserved three points.”
“At the start of the season, I used to get nervous about every point dropped. But now, in the decisive stage of the championship, losing points hurts twice as much. I’m very disappointed, but this is football — things don’t always go as we want. I also understand that I can’t ask more from my players than what they’ve already given,” said the experienced coach.
According to Antonio Conte, his team showed clear dominance throughout the match. Napoli players took 22 shots on goal, 11 of which were on target. Additionally, they held a clear advantage in ball possession.
“We absolutely didn’t deserve to lose these two points. Now our goal has changed. Previously, seven points from the last three matches were enough to become champions; now we must collect six points from the remaining two matches. If we achieve that, it will still be a fantastic result and a reward for all the hard work we’ve done throughout the season.”
At the end of his speech, Conte also extended special thanks to the fans and his players:
“The last two rounds are of historic importance for us. This is a goal that was difficult to even dream about at the start of the season. If we can achieve this result, it will be truly fantastic. Our fans and the entire city of Naples deserve such wonderful achievements. We are still pushing past our limits and fighting with all our strength. That’s why I can only express my gratitude to my players.”
Napoli’s upcoming matches will carry decisive importance for the title. Antonio Conte and his squad are aiming for nothing less than victory in both encounters. The Zamin.uz editorial team wishes the team success and good luck in the final matches. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
