Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, who extended his contract with the famous English club Liverpool, admitted that this decision surprised him. The footballer expressed his opinion on his position in the club, his age and the team's policy.
According to Salah, he considered it almost impossible for him to stay at Liverpool after turning 30. He looked at the club's past policy towards older players and on this basis considered his future problematic.
"I estimated the probability of extending my contract at 10 percent. Because the club has always had a certain approach to players over 30. To be honest, I did not expect me to stay. I think the club assessed whether I could still be useful and then made a decision," Mohamed Salah stressed.
For information, the 31-year-old winger's current contract was due to expire in the summer of 2024. However, the club's management, taking into account the player's importance to the team, offered him a new contract until 2027, and Salah accepted this offer.
Mohamed Salah has been defending the honor of Liverpool since 2017 and has played in more than 300 matches and scored nearly 200 goals so far. He is considered one of the greatest strikers in the club's history.
