Luka Modric, who has become a legend in the Real Madrid team over the past decade and has firmly established himself in world football, is saying goodbye to the team. The 39-year-old Croatian playmaker made an official statement about this and said a heartfelt farewell to the fans.
"Dear Real Madrid family, an unforgettable moment has arrived. On Saturday, I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabeu. This is my last step in this stadium. Of course, I always hoped that it would be later, but in football everything has a beginning and an end. This is part of life," he said with heartfelt words.
Modric moved to Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012. According to him, at that time he intended to have a successful career with the team, but he never imagined that he would achieve such success.
“I started a new life as a player in Madrid. I understood football differently here. Winning every competition, enjoying every final is a feeling of such greatness that it is difficult to put into words. Most importantly, I found not only trophies here, but also love from the heart. The support of the fans, every ovation and the love in the stands completely captivated me,” said Luca.
He expressed his gratitude to club president Florentino Perez, the coaching staff, his teammates and everyone who worked for the team. He also spoke about the “renovations”, finals and magical nights at the Bernabeu during his career at Real Madrid, emphasizing that he will remember these moments forever.
“Every championship, every trophy I win is special for me. But my greatest asset is the feeling of being part of Real Madrid,” he said.
Modric played 590 matches for Madrid, scoring 43 goals and providing 95 assists. With him, the “cream-colored” team won the Champions League 6 times, La Liga 4 times, the Spanish Cup 2 times and the Super Cup 5 times. In addition, he also won the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup with Real Madrid.
Modric concluded his speech with the following words: “I will officially leave after the Club World Cup. But Real Madrid will remain in my heart forever. I will be a fan of my team as always. I leave with gratitude, I have left history behind me.”
