The draw for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup was recently held. According to the results of the draw, the U17 team of Uzbekistan, led by Islam Ismailov, the winner of the Asian Championship, was placed in Group J. Our youth will compete against strong and competitive teams such as Paraguay, Panama and Ireland.
In connection with this important event, a Sports.uz journalist interviewed the head coach of the U17 team of Uzbekistan, Islam Ismailov. During the interview, the coach shared his thoughts on the draw, opponents and preparations for the World Cup.
About the draw:
According to Islam Ismailov, although the opponents in the group were selected randomly, each team has its own strengths. He stressed that it is wrong to assess the teams in the group as “easy opponents”, saying:
“All the teams in our group have their own style and strengths. There are no favorites. Every match requires serious preparation.”
Draw ceremony and conditions in Qatar:
According to him, the draw ceremony in Qatar was organized at a high level. The fact that the coaches were given tours of the hotels, stadiums and training grounds left a great impression. Other coaches also recognized the success of the Uzbek players at the Asian Championship.
“The attitude of other teams towards us has changed before the tournament. They will prepare seriously against us.”
Preparation plan:
According to Ismailov, the national team will hold a training camp in Latin America in June. This decision was made in order to properly prepare for the teams in the group, Paraguay and Panama. A two-stage training camp is planned there.
Structure and selection:
According to the coach, the core of the team will consist of players who participated in the Asian Championship. However, the selection process will continue, as the goal is to increase the quality of the game and the level of competition.
“Each young man will serve not only the main team, but also the honor of the whole country. Opportunities will also be created for new talents.”
In the run-up to the World Cup, the U17 national team of Uzbekistan will conduct serious and thorough training. The goal is not only to get out of the group, but also to participate in the next stages with dignity. Coach Islam Ismailov and his team have begun serious work in this regard.
