
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicked off in the USA with exciting matches. On June 18, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Manchester City faced Morocco’s Wydad in a Group G clash. The English champions secured a confident 2-0 victory.
Phil Foden scored just two minutes into the match and later assisted Jeremy Doku in the 42nd minute to double City’s lead.
However, in the 88th minute, City defender Rico Lewis received a red card, leaving his team with ten men.
Two newcomers — Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki — made their debuts for City, both starting the match. Reijnders played the full 90 minutes, while Cherki was substituted in the 60th minute.
Rodri, returning from a knee injury, came on in the second half replacing Foden — this marked his second official match since recovery.
Uzbekistan international defender Abduqodir Husanov was listed in the squad but did not make an appearance.
City’s next match in Group G will be on June 23 against Al-Ain (UAE), while Wydad will face Juventus (Italy) on June 22.
