Uzbekistan national team captain and established European striker Eldor Shomurodov begins the summer amid hot transfer talks. Having demonstrated his high performance both at club and international level this season, he now stands on the cusp of a new career phase.
29‑year‑old Shomurodov secured his position at Roma, signing a contract until 30 June 2027. However, this doesn’t mean a long stay — due to financial fair play rules, the Italian giant must soon generate around €10 million, and selling one of their most valuable players is one way to achieve that.
Meanwhile, other clubs have shown serious interest in the Uzbek striker. Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United attempted to sign Shomurodov several months ago, but talks stalled. This summer, the Americans plan to re-engage and make an official offer.
The main intrigue is in Europe: Turkey and France. Turkish side Başakşehir offered Roma €7 million, later raising their bid to €8 million. Ligue 1’s Rennes also contacted Roma, requesting information and exploring the transfer conditions. In Italy, newly promoted Serie A side Cremonese is also reportedly interested. Although sporting director Simone Iacchetta officially said no negotiations are ongoing, Italian experts believe Cremonese may be in talks for multiple players.
Therefore, Shomurodov is at a critical stage. Interest from the USA, Turkey, and France, along with a possible Serie A move, presents a significant opportunity for the Uzbek footballer to step up his career.
In the season, Eldor appeared in 37 games for Roma, scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists, reinforcing his versatility, professionalism, and fitness — his primary strengths.
