England's top team, Manchester City, participating in the Club World Cup, suffered a major loss during the tournament. According to head coach Josep Guardiola, the young Argentine forward Claudio Echeverri, who had just been integrated into the main squad and caught fans' attention with his brilliant debut, will not be able to take part in the remainder of the tournament.
It should be recalled that 19-year-old Echeverri played his first match of the World Cup against Al Ain and opened his scoring account in that game. His youthful fearlessness and free movements on the field were positively received by both coaches and fans.
However, on the eve of the continuation of the tournament, it became known that the young player had suffered an injury and would no longer be able to participate. Guardiola said the following at the press conference:
“Claudio Echeverri has a problem with his ankle. His injury is a serious loss for us. It will take at least two to three weeks for him to fully recover. This is a very unfortunate situation for us. He is a big talent, but unfortunately, we cannot use him in this tournament.”
According to the coach, the team will test new players in the upcoming match against Juventus. In addition, several substitutions are planned for the second half.
“We can't play at a high tempo for all 90 minutes, especially after such losses. So, we will rely on substitutions to distribute energy correctly on the field,” said Guardiola.
Echeverri’s absence from the tournament may affect City’s attacking options. However, this situation creates an important opportunity for other young talents to showcase themselves. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
