What Awaits the Returned Legionnaires?

What Awaits the Returned Legionnaires?

In recent years, Uzbek footballers have been going abroad, gaining experience in various championships. Some shine quickly and rise to new stages, while others, due to lack of stable playing time and trust, prefer to return home. Often, these returns are beneficial not only for the player but also for the club that attracts him. In this article, we talk about five important players who returned to the Uzbekistan Super League this summer: who they are, where they came from, which team they joined, and what to expect.

Jasur Jaloliddinov — "Sumqayit" → "Sogdiana"

For several years now, Jasur Jaloliddinov has been mentioned as a talented but unstable player. Having shone at "Bunyodkor" and attracted the attention of European clubs, Jasur made his debut for Russia’s "Lokomotiv", "Tambov", then later for "Andijon", "Lokomotiv", "Neftchi".

His last stop was Azerbaijan’s "Sumqayit" — where he played 18 matches and was limited to just one assist. This indicator is very low for his potential. However, in recent friendly matches with the Jizzakh team, he has not only been scoring but also demonstrating leadership, managing the game, and making quick decisions.

If he gets full opportunity and regains his confidence, he could be the best transfer of the second half of the season.

Bobir Abdikholikov — "Sumqayit" → "Pakhtakor"

Bobir Abdikholikov — as a striker, his qualities are no secret to anyone. Last year, he celebrated the national championship with "Nasaf", scored important goals, made assists, and became a full member of the team. After that, he also moved to Azerbaijan’s "Sumqayit" club.

There he tried to become a key figure, scoring 4 goals and making 3 assists in 13 matches. Nevertheless, his activity did not last long — "Pakhtakor" opened its doors for him. Now he will compete with Igor Sergeev for the main striker position. This competition will benefit both players.

For Bobir, "Pakhtakor" is a new challenge — now he strives to repeat the championship he won with "Nasaf", but already in the ranks of the "lions".

Khojimat Erkinov – "Al Wahda" → "Pakhtakor"

For Khojimat Erkinov, "Pakhtakor" is not a foreign club — he grew up here, became known, and was recognized by the fans for his bright play. In 2023, returning to the team for a short time, he won the championship. Then he went to the UAE’s "Al Wahda" club, where in the Pro League he played 31 matches, scored 1 goal, and made 6 assists.

Now he is back in Tashkent. His goal this time is clear: to regain his place in the team. Erkinov is among the fast players — he can quickly assess the situation, create sharpness on the wings, and help his attacking partners.

If he achieves stability, this third spell at "Pakhtakor" could be the most productive period of his career.

Abbos Otakhanov – "Muangthong United" → "Khorezm"

A member of the victorious 2018 U-23 Asian Championship squad, Abbos Otakhanov also tried himself as a legionnaire. In 2024, he signed a contract with Thailand’s "Muangthong United", played 27 matches, scored 2 goals, and made 1 assist. His game was positively evaluated by the coaches.

Now Abbos has moved to "Khorezm" under the leadership of Hakim Fuzailov. Fuzailov and Otakhanov worked together at "Bukhara" in 2023 — since then, they have developed mutual understanding and trust. For "Khorezm", this tandem has great potential, and Otakhanov’s transfer will not only strengthen the defense but also increase competition in the backline.

Aziz Turgunboev - "Sivasspor" → ?

The experienced midfielder Aziz Turgunboev played 33 matches for Turkey’s "Sivasspor". Although injuries affected him in some situations, he did not get lost in a strong league. This summer, not only Uzbek clubs, but also Iranian teams showed interest in him.

He is currently training with "Pakhtakor". At the same time, "Navbahor" also wants to add him to its squad. Turgunboev is expected to announce his decision soon. Whichever club he chooses, he can become a leader and bring great benefit with his experience.
