In the English Super Cup, Liverpool, facing Crystal Palace, failed to claim the expected victory and suffered a loss. After the match, the club’s head coach Arne Slot shared his thoughts on the game with the press. According to him, this match had both positive and negative aspects for the team.

Slot stated that against an opponent playing with a compact defense, Liverpool has significantly improved compared to last season. — “If we compare with last season’s results, back then we scored only once against Crystal Palace, but today we hit the target twice. In other words, against a team with tight defense, we were able to create more attacking opportunities. This is a positive factor,” said the coach.

However, at the same time, he did not hide the shortcomings in defense. He noted that, just like in the match against Athletic, they conceded two goals again this time. “In fact, against Milan we conceded even more. This means we still have a lot of work to do to strengthen our defensive line. Our first goal was the result of teamwork, creativity, and combination play. This is clearly a step forward compared to last season,” Slot added.

According to the coach, while last season the team tried to concede as few goals as possible while creating chances, this year attacking activity has increased, but so has the number of goals conceded. “If we want to contend for the title, we need to focus on limiting the opponent’s attacking opportunities. Not conceding goals is the aim, but to achieve that, we must ensure reliability not only in attack but also in defense. Today’s losses were enough to let the victory slip away,” he said.

Slot also responded to the question about whether Liverpool will be under pressure this season. “We are Liverpool. This is not related to whether we signed many players or let them go. Yes, we parted ways with several of our players and plan to add one more new player to the squad. But in any case, if you are in a Liverpool shirt, the pressure is always there,” concluded the head coach.
