A sensational incident occurred around the well-known professional boxer Magomed Kurbanov. He was officially banned from sports for three years for violating anti-doping rules. This was reported by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) on its official website.
It was reported that prohibited substances - drostanolone and its metabolite - were found in the boxer's samples. These anabolic steroids artificially increase strength and are classified as doping agents. Therefore, the violation was considered serious, and severe punishment was applied.
According to the official statement of RUSADA, the 30-year-old Kurbanov violated clauses 4.1 and 4.2 of the All-Russian Anti-Doping Rules. The disqualification decision entered into force on August 1, 2025, but the term of temporary suspension is calculated from July 24, 2025.
This decision could be a major blow to the boxer's sports career. During his career, Kurbanov was recognized as one of the strongest athletes in Russia in the super middleweight division. So far, he has won 26 times in the ring and suffered only 2 losses.
Kurbanov's name is mentioned along with the WBO International belt. He successfully defended this belt for several years and became a symbol of Russian boxing in his weight category. It should be recalled that Magomed's first defeat in his professional career was met by Uzbek boxer Israil Madrimov.
So far, the boxer himself or his relatives have not commented on this decision. But undoubtedly, a three-year disqualification could have a significant impact on his sporting future.
Thus, one of the major representatives of Russian boxing faced a serious obstacle. Now the sports community is interested in Kurbanov's future and his path after the disqualification.
