On September 10, the 2024/25 season officially ended at the Liga Portugal Awards, and the winners and prize-winners were announced. The ceremony honored the best players and coaches who have shown themselves in the Portuguese championship.
The main prize - the award for the best player of the year - was awarded to the striker of the Swedish national team, former top scorer of Sporting, Victor Gokeres. The 27-year-old forward played in 33 matches for the Lisbon club last season, scoring 39 goals and providing 8 assists. Thanks to such high results, Gokeres was unanimously recognized as the best player of the season by fans and experts.
It is noteworthy that after the summer transfer window, Victor Gokeres joined the ranks of the famous London club Arsenal. He is expected to play at a high level in his new team and show himself in the Premier League.
The Liga Portugal Awards also announced the best coach of the year. Rui Borges, who led Sporting to the championship with 82 points, leaving their main rival Benfica behind by two points, was recognized as the winner. His tactical vision, way of working with players and his desire to play a beautiful game were highly appreciated by the sports community.
