The match against Real Sociedad (2:1) in the 4th round of La Liga ended in a victory for the Madrid club. However, the most discussed moment of the match was the sending off of Real Madrid defender Dean Heisen.
The incident occurred in the 65th minute: when Real Sociedad launched a counter-attack, Heisen knocked down the opponent for the last hopeful foul, and referee Jesus Gil Manzano showed him a direct red card. However, this decision sparked controversy, as another Madrid defender, Eder Militao, was also present near the episode.
Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso strongly protested the referee's decision. What angered him most was that the referee hadn't checked the VAR system.
Through Movistar microphones, it was noted that Alonso commented:
"Jesus, I don't want to speak ill of you, but you yourself are forcing people to think so! Didn't you see that Militao is nearby? After all, you were only 5 meters away from the episode!"
The referee did not change his decision and, on the contrary, showed a yellow card to Xabi Alonso himself for his sharp performance in the match.
After this situation, heated debates began on social networks among fans and experts. Some believe the referee's decision was correct, while others suggest that the situation should have been examined more deeply through VAR.
At the same time, Real Madrid still ended the game 2-1 in their favor and continues to lead the league.
