The Football Association of Uzbekistan recently held a meeting with one of the biggest names in world football - Fabio Cannavaro, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2006. According to Championat.asia, the negotiations took place in Cannavaro's homeland, Italy.
Kannavaro, who made history as a famous defender and later chose the coaching path, tried his hand at clubs in the UAE, China, and Saudi Arabia. He also served as the head coach of the Chinese national team, Benevento, Udinese, and the Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb. This experience has shown him to be a highly respected specialist in world football.
Negotiations between the UFA leadership and Cannavaro are related to the possibility of inviting him to the management of the Uzbekistan national team. If the agreement is reached, for the first time in the history of the national team, the Ballon d'Or winner will be able to manage the team as a coach.
It should be recalled that the 52-year-old Cannavaro visited Uzbekistan last month and participated in the final of the Uzbekistan Super Cup in futsal. He also remained in the fans' memory for appearing in an exhibition game alongside local football legends.
