A very rare occurrence in the football world occurred in the second division of the Turkish championship. "Yeni Malatyaspor," which has been struggling to recover from defeats for several years, has finally managed to put an end to this dark streak.
The team ended its 60-game losing streak in the next round of the second division against Ankara Demirspor and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. This result has been described as one of the most significant developments for Yeni Malatyaspor in the last three years.
Thus, the club earned a point for the first time after 974 days. The last time Yeni Malatyaspor added a point was on 29 January 2023, when they defeated Eyupspor 2-1.[citation needed] Since then, for entire seasons, the team has only suffered defeats on the field.
However, the current situation for Yeni Malatyaspor is not easy. The team currently sits at the bottom of the Turkish second division with -35 points. The reason for this is the severe punishment imposed by FIFA for financial violations. In particular, 36 points were deducted from the team before the start of the season.
Interestingly, this club participated in the Turkish Super League in the 2021/2022 season and played in the elite division. However, at the end of the championship, the club was relegated. The subsequent period was marked by complete defeat.
Nowadays, every point is valuable for Yeni Malatyaspor. They are striving to prove themselves in the competition at least several more times in the upcoming rounds. This draw somewhat eased the difficult period in the club's history and gave fans a glimmer of hope.
