Monaco has officially appointed 38-year-old Belgian specialist Sebastian Pokonyoli as head coach. He takes the place of Austrian Adi Hütter, who bid farewell to the team on Friday, 10 October.
During his playing career, Pokonyoli was known for reliable performances in defense for clubs Genk, AZ Alkmaar, Standard, Hannover, West Bromwich, Brighton and Union.
The Belgian specialist began his coaching career in 2021 with Union’s youth side, then headed Genk’s academy and Belgium’s U18 national team. Since the summer of 2024, Pokonyoli had been in charge of Union’s first team.
Now serious tasks await Pokonyoli at Monaco: balancing the squad, working with young players and stabilizing results. The club’s management demands from the new coach a modern playing style and the team’s fight for top positions.
A new chapter has begun for the principality club — Pokonyoli’s boldness and ideas are expected to help take Monaco to new heights.
