Former Real Madrid defender Pepe recently shared his thoughts in an interview about his former teammate — now the head coach of the “Royal Club,” Xabi Alonso. According to him, this position represents not only great responsibility but also a tremendous opportunity for Alonso.
“I played alongside Xabi and know him well. Managing Real Madrid is a huge challenge for any coach because this club always carries high expectations and pressure,” Pepe said.
According to the former defender, Alonso began developing his coaching mindset even while he was still a player:
“When José Mourinho was managing Real, Xabi would often talk to him. He was deeply interested in football and analyzed every situation on the pitch. Through that, he developed his own vision of the game.”
Pepe expressed confidence in his former teammate:
“I believe in Xabi. He is intelligent, demanding, and has a strong character. I’m sure his career at Real Madrid will be successful.”
In recent years, Xabi Alonso has shown great potential as a coach. His results with Bayer Leverkusen earned recognition across Europe, and now he continues his journey in Madrid.
According to Pepe, working at a club like Real Madrid always comes with pressure, but Alonso has the ability to turn that pressure into opportunity.
