Franco Israel: “The most difficult moment against Uzbekistan was the corner kick”

Uruguayan national team goalkeeper Franco Israel shared his impressions after the 2–1 victory over Uzbekistan. According to him, the toughest moment in the match was during a corner kick situation.

“The hardest moment for me was during the corner kick. Shomurodov’s header in the second half was also dangerous, but that was more instinctive — a matter of quick reaction. In a corner situation, you have to consider everything — the ball’s trajectory, who is behind you, which direction to jump. It’s more complicated,” said Franco Israel.

The goalkeeper noted that the match was mostly under Uruguay’s control, but Uzbekistan’s goal in the final minutes made the game more tense. “The game was under our control, but after conceding a goal, we had to work hard in defense. I’m not sure if there was an offside in that situation, but such things happen in football,” he said.

“For a goalkeeper, keeping a clean sheet is very important. Sometimes luck also plays a role. The main thing is that we won. This game was a great experience for us, and the team worked together as one,” added the 25-year-old player.

According to Israel, Uruguay’s national team aims to strengthen its system of play and is seriously preparing for the World Cup.

Thus, the match against Uzbekistan was not only a victory for him but also an important professional test.
