A new era is beginning at Real Madrid. Having taken charge as head coach this summer, Xabi Alonso has begun implementing major reforms in the club. The Spanish coach is paying special attention to adapting the team to modern demands and rebuilding it according to his own football philosophy.
Alonso favors giving opportunities to the younger generation. According to his plan, experienced but aging players in Real’s squad should gradually make way for new talents. This aims to strengthen competition within the team and ensure long-term stability.
According to Bild, Alonso has made one of these key decisions — he does not intend to extend the contract of defender Antonio Rüdiger. The former German international’s contract expires at the end of the current season, and the coach has already indicated that there will be no place for him in the renewed lineup.
Sources claim that the 32-year-old Rüdiger has not been performing consistently in recent months and has become prone to injuries, which has concerned the coach. Therefore, Alonso plans to entrust the center of defense to the duo of Éder Militão and young defender Dean Huijsen.
It is also reported that the decision is based not only on tactical reasons but economic ones as well. Rüdiger is one of the highest-paid players in the squad, and keeping him on the bench is considered financially inefficient for the club.
At the same time, club insiders emphasize that Alonso’s goal is not to completely exclude veteran players but to bring new energy, pace, and a spirit of competition into the team. He sees Real’s future in young talents like Militão, Tchouaméni, Valverde, Rodrygo, and Bellingham.
The Real Madrid management fully supports Alonso’s decisions. They view his project as a long-term strategy aimed at restoring the club to the top of European football in the coming years.
