Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, currently playing for AC Milan, will return to Real Madrid after ending his playing career. This was reported by DefensaCentral, citing Spanish journalists.
According to sources, the 40-year-old footballer will begin working as a coach at the Los Blancos academy once he retires. Due to his close relationship with Real president Florentino Perez, the offer was discussed well in advance, and Modric has already accepted it.
It is reported that Modric has already started preparing to obtain a coaching license. He plans to complete special courses by the end of this season and gradually transition from player to coach.
His current contract with Milan runs until the summer of 2026, with an option to extend for another year. However, insiders claim that Modric intends to play his final professional season with the Italian club.
Throughout his career, Luka Modric has been recognized as one of Europe’s top footballers. In 2018, he won the Ballon d’Or, becoming the first player to break the long-standing dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
During his decade at Real Madrid, Modric won five Champions League titles, four Club World Cups, and several domestic trophies. The Real Madrid management sees his experience as an invaluable asset for the club’s academy players.
“Luka has always played intelligently; every move he makes shows professionalism and class. We want his return to inspire the next generation,” a club source told DefensaCentral.
Modric’s return to Real’s academy carries both symbolic and strategic importance. His leadership qualities and mastery of ball control are expected to serve as a model for young talents.
