UFC fighter Iliya Topuriya made an unexpected statement about Islam Makhachev at a press conference in Tbilisi this week. The Spanish-Georgian champion addressed his opponent with a serious warning and spoke openly about the fate of the upcoming fight.
"If Islam Makhachev loses his championship fight against Jack Della Maddalena, he can return to Dagestan and continue herding sheep on the farm. But if he wins, I will decide to raise my weight class - that's for sure!" Topuria said, answering the journalist's question.
In his speech, he also stated that if Makhachev wins, he intends to compete against him at the American Independence Day tournament in the White House in June 2025.
For information, Ilia Topuria currently holds the lightweight championship belt and is expected to return to the octagon at UFC 324 in Los Angeles in January of next year.
The fight between Islam Makhachev and Jack Della Maddalena will take place on November 15 at a numbered UFC event in New York City. This clash will undoubtedly be a great test for both fighters.
