The Swedish Football Union made an unexpected decision - England's Graham Potter has been appointed as the new head coach. According to official information, the agreement with the 50-year-old specialist will be valid until the end of the 2026 World Cup qualifying stage.
Potter's arrival in Sweden is expected to mark a new stage in the country's football scene. Because the team is in a difficult situation now - after four rounds, they are in last place in Group "B" with only 1 point. At the same time, they did not lose their leadership in Division C of the Nations League and still retained their chance to qualify for the World Cup through the playoffs.
The main task facing the new head coach is to psychologically rebuild the team and revive the spirit of victory in the final matches of the selection. If Sweden qualifies for the World Cup, Potter's contract will be automatically renewed.
As a reminder, Danish coach Yoen Dahl Thomasson, previously the Swedish national team's head coach, resigned on October 14th following a defeat against Kosovo. Thus, he is remembered as the first foreign coach in the history of the national team.
Graham Potter's last workplace was West Ham. However, he did not remain in this position for long - he left the team after only 24 days. Now, it's no secret that the hope of the entire nation lies before him.
Swedish football fans are waiting for a new breath and a new spirit with the new coach. Potter hopes to justify this trust and return the team, which has been thirsting for victories in recent years, to higher ranks.
