Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently expressed sincere thoughts about Argentinian striker Julian Alvarez in an interview. The Spanish specialist, still remembering his former student with great respect, expressed satisfaction with his current state.
According to Guardiola, Alvarez also demonstrated great diligence and discipline while playing for City, but due to competition with Erling Haaland, he had limited opportunities to play regularly.
"Remember the Treble season? That year, I had wonderful players who remained on the bench: Emerick Laporte - a member of the national team and a strong defender, Julian Alvarez - a hardworking and very talented forward. I wanted to see them back on my team now, but they wanted to play more," Guardiola said.
The coach stated that Alvarez's departure was driven by personal ambition and a desire for development.
"Competing with Haaland wasn't easy for Julian. This was a difficult decision for us as well. But I fully understand him - he always wants to play, to express himself. Now he's at Atletico Madrid, under a world-class coach like Simeone, playing alongside a strong team, and he's showing great results," Guardiola said.
The Spanish specialist praised Alvarez's level of professionalism and character:
"He always put the team's interests first. It's an honor for me to work with such players. Now, regardless of which club he is in, he always performs at a high level. Personally, I would very much like to see him again at the "City."
