The British publication Daily Mail has once again prepared a sensational article, but this time too with incorrect information. The paper reported that Russia had applied to host the 2032 European Championship.
In reality, however, this claim is far from the truth. The misunderstanding arose from a simple statement made by Russian Football Union (RFU) president Aleksandr Dyukov that was misinterpreted.
After the Russia vs Bolivia (3:0) match, Dyukov was asked a question and he briefly replied: "Russia is always ready." Daily Mail interpreted this as Russia trying to replace Italy and take over as host of Euro 2032.
The publication even incorrectly introduced Dyukov as "the president of the Moscow Football Federation." In reality, Russia had submitted an application for Euro 2032 back in 2022, but since then there have been no new documents or negotiations.
The RFU press service did not confirm this report and stated that the Daily Mail had misinterpreted the situation. Meanwhile, there are indeed issues in Italy related to Euro 2032.
According to UEFA sources, only one out of ten stadiums in Italy meets tournament standards, while the rest are outdated. Italy, working in cooperation with Turkey, needs to address these issues in good time.
As for Russia, it is still recognized as a country with football infrastructure and modern stadiums. The stadiums that were prepared for the 2018 World Cup are ready for use.
Dyukov's words "Russia is always ready" actually referred to this very fact. However, the British press misrepresented the situation, describing Russia as attempting to reappear on Europe's football stage.
In reality, football is a sport, not a political tool. Today’s football journalism often settles for sensational headlines rather than analyzing events.
Russia, meanwhile, continues to develop its football infrastructure and is ready to host major tournaments once again. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
