Argentina national team's forward Lionel Messi has decided to participate in the elections for the presidency of the Spanish club 'Barcelona.' This was reported by the ABC portal.
According to sources, Messi has firmly decided to compete with the current club president Joan Laporta. The elections are scheduled to be held between March 15 and June 15.
Four years ago, Messi openly supported Laporta in the elections. However, due to a failure to reach an agreement on extending the contract, their relationship deteriorated, and as a result, the player left the club and moved to 'PSG.'
Laporta prefers holding the elections in April, as this could help him avoid criticism in case the season ends unsuccessfully. Additionally, according to reports, if a candidate with a high chance of winning appears, Messi may opt out of participating in the elections.
