The World U-17 Championship, which began in Qatar, is being held this year for the first time in history, uniting the national teams of 48 countries. Following FIFA's decision, the format of the competition was fundamentally updated and established to be held annually. This further expanded the opportunities for young football players to demonstrate their talents on a global scale.
After winning the Asian Championship in Saudi Arabia, the Uzbekistan U-17 national team entered the world arena as the continental champion. This is the third World Youth Championship, and this time the team is playing under the leadership of Islam Ismailov. They will compete in Group J against the youth teams of Paraguay, Ireland, and Panama.
In the first test of the competition, the Uzbek guys won the match against Paraguay. The match was interesting and under intense pressure, but two goals from Azizbek Abdumuminov determined the result - 2:1. The first goal was scored in the 25th minute with a powerful long-range shot after a precise pass from Abubakir Shukurullayev. At the end of the first half, Azizbek once again used his opportunity in the penalty area and increased the score.
In the second half, the Paraguayan team tried to improve the situation, organizing several dangerous attacks, but the Uzbek guys played tightly in defense and didn't give the opponent a big chance. Only in the 89th minute of the match, Alan Ledesma managed to reduce the score by a penalty, but the result did not change - victory for Uzbekistan!
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) also drew attention to this result and wrote on its official website:
"Uzbekistan started its participation in the World Cup in Qatar with a 2-1 victory over Paraguay. The brightest star of the match was Azizbek Abdumuminov, who scored a brace. His team withstood the opponent's pressure and earned the first points."
Coach Islam Ismailov also thanked the players for their willpower and discipline after the game. He emphasized that the team acted in a pre-planned tactical manner, keeping the opponent in unexpected situations with quick attacks.
The Uzbekistan national youth team is preparing for the crucial match against Ireland on November 8th. Since Ireland defeated Panama 4-1 today, the upcoming clash will be crucial for the group lead.
Azizbek Abdumo'minov has been added to the World Cup top scorers list. If our guys continue competing in this spirit, Uzbekistan can open a new page in world football at the youth level this year as well.
