In the 4th round of the UEFA Champions League, Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund 4-1 at home. Following the match, City manager Pep Guardiola commented on his team's performance, highlighting key turning points in the game.
"It should be noted that we entered the field only two days ago. Borussia Dortmund is traditionally a top-level opponent in the Champions League. The first 15 minutes were quite difficult for us - we couldn't find answers to the questions of where we were, what we were playing.
However, after that, the team found its game. We gained control of the ball, disrupted the opponent's tactical order, and created opportunities for quick attacks. Then the game began to take a much better turn.
The 10-15 minutes after Borussia opened the scoring were quite difficult. They built their entire attack with six or seven players. At that moment, we put Dias on the field and switched to play with five defenders - as a result, we restored stability and ended the match positively.
I am very grateful to my players. Lately, they have been in a high state, both physically and mentally. At this stage, every victory is very important. If we defeat Bayer Leverkusen and other strong opponents in the upcoming matches, we have a chance to finish in the top eight of the group stage," Guardiola said.
The Spanish coach also commented on Erling Haaland's latest record.
"I didn't know before that he set a record. Every time I enter a press conference, you remind me of his next achievement. The fact that Haaland became the first player to score in five consecutive matches for three different clubs is a significant achievement.
I am proud of him, he deserves such an indicator. The closer a strong team is to Haaland, the easier it will be for him to act effectively. Because at Manchester City, each player creates space for the other," the coach said in an interview with TNT Sports.
Thus, the Citizens remain in the lead with 10 points after the 4th round. Guardiola's team plans to continue their victory in the next round.
