The striker of the Peru national team, Alex Valera, stated that he was unaware of the fact that the abbreviation of Russian national team head coach Valery Karpin's name fully matches his own surname. "I didn’t know that.
Moreover, in general, this is the first time I've heard of my surname being used in any other context outside of Peru. It surprised me a bit, but it was interesting (laughs)," Valera said, as quoted by "Match TV."
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, the BetBoom friendly match between the Russian and Peruvian national teams ended in a 1:1 draw. Ironically, it was Alex Valera who scored a goal late in the match.
The Russian national team will hold its next BetBoom game on November 15 in Sochi, facing the Chilean national team. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
