
Dieter Herzog, a player of Germany's national football team that won the 1974 FIFA World Cup, passed away on November 20 at the age of 79. This was reported by the official website of the German Football Association, although no details regarding the cause of death were provided.
Herzog spent part of his career at Düsseldorf's "Fortuna" club, where he won multiple bronze medals in the German championship. After leaving "Fortuna," he joined "Bayer" Leverkusen, with which he achieved promotion from the second Bundesliga to the first Bundesliga.
After concluding his playing career, Herzog worked as a scout for "Bayer" for many years. According to German media, he never played abroad as a footballer but fully embraced the opportunity in his new scouting role.
In addition, Herzog owned a tobacco shop in his hometown of Oberhausen. As a striker, Herzog appeared in five matches for the German national team.
