On Saturday, Newcastle and Manchester City delivered an entertaining football showdown. Newcastle capitalized on Nicolás González's mistake to create an opportunity near the opponent's penalty area through Harvey Barnes.
Barnes' 18-meter strike was saved by City's goalkeeper. In a quick counterattack, City's Erling Haaland attempted to chip the ball over the goalkeeper from outside the penalty area, but his shot went well wide of the goalpost.
Newcastle's Jacob Murphy sent a cross from the right flank, and Nick Woltemade attempted a header, but the goalkeeper superbly deflected the effort. Later, Harvey Barnes entered the opponent's penalty area from the left flank and delivered a precise pass to Woltemade.
Woltemade struck low, but once again, the goalkeeper blocked the shot. Murphy then provided Barnes with a pass from the right wing, but Barnes failed to convert with the goal wide open.
In the 63rd minute, Harvey Barnes put Newcastle in the lead with an accurate strike into the bottom left corner from outside the penalty area.
Soon after, Manchester City equalized through Rúben Dias, making it 1-1. However, a combination play between Woltemade and Barnes ended with Barnes securing a crucial 2-1 victory for Newcastle.
The defeat was Manchester City's fourth of the season, dropping them to third place in the league standings. Newcastle moved up to 14th place.
