Despite being skillful in penalty execution, Çalhanoğlu was unable to outsmart AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Commenting on this situation, former Italy national team goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani stated, "Maignan's psychological advantage prevented Çalhanoğlu from taking a precise penalty.
