Safonov Says PSG Places Great Trust in Him

PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov shared his thoughts on his role during his debut season with the club. "Playing in 15 matches – this is only possible to achieve as a second goalkeeper under this coach.

I have not seen a second-choice goalkeeper given this level of trust elsewhere. Such confidence at this level is extremely rare," Safonov stated on Fyodor Smolov’s podcast.

Safonov joined PSG in the summer of 2024. Last season, he participated in 17 matches across all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in seven of them.

This season, however, he has yet to make an appearance. Safonov’s current contract with PSG runs until June 2029.

His chances of starting in the upcoming Ligue 1 match against Rennes are high, as the primary goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, is sidelined with an injury. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
