Tennis player Kamilla Rakhimova, who decided to change her sports citizenship from Russia to Uzbekistan, won a WTA 125 category tournament in Angers, France. This victory marks the beginning of a new, promising era for Uzbekistan.
A convincing victory at Anje
Kamilla Rakhimova (at the beginning of the competition, she was ranked 112th in the world) won the main prize in the final, defeating her German opponent Tamara Korpach (138th place) with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:4).
Thanks to this success at Anje, Rakhimova received 125 rating points and more than 13 thousand euros in prize money. Most importantly, after this victory, the tennis player managed to climb to 97th place in the WTA rankings and enter the TOP-100 tennis players.
Choice and personal decision
It was officially announced at the beginning of December that Rakhimova would represent Uzbekistan. One of the personal grounds for this decision was that his mother was born in Uzbekistan.
Although she participated in the Anje tournament with a neutral status, her decision attracted considerable attention in the sports world. Rahimova stated on her Instagram page that the decision to join the Uzbekistan national team was not easy, but it was the most correct choice, both professionally and personally.
"My decision is based on my ambitions, career goals, and the feeling that it provides the best opportunities for my development as an athlete," the tennis player wrote.
He also emphasized that changing citizenship would never "extinguish" his roots and respect for the previous community.
Kamilla Rakhimova's entry into the TOP-100 and her first major victory is a great achievement for the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation, and we hope to see her official matches under our country's flag soon.
