Cherchesov Comments on Safonov's Absence During Injury

Renowned coach Stanislav Cherchesov commented on reports regarding Matvey Safonov's hand injury. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) revealed on Friday that the goalkeeper had sustained an injury and was placed under the care of the medical team.

Recently, Safonov delivered an outstanding performance in the Intercontinental Cup final. According to Cherchesov, the injury came at an inconvenient time for Safonov, as he needed to keep playing to secure his spot in the starting lineup.

The coach wished the goalkeeper a swift recovery and hoped to see him back in action guarding the net soon. According to reports, Safonov participated in PSG’s last four matches.

Prior to this, he had not made an appearance during the 2025/2026 season. In the Intercontinental Cup final, he saved four penalty shots during the shootout, leading PSG to victory over Flamengo.
