Kivu comments on goalkeeper selection in Super Cup semifinal

Inter Milan's head coach Cristian Chivu explained his decision to entrust the goalkeeping duties to Josep Martínez in the Italian Super Cup semifinal match against Bologna. The coach stated that due to a demanding schedule and the need for squad rotation, the goalkeeper deserved the opportunity to showcase his abilities.

"I have 25 players, and all of them deserve playing time. Every one of them is a champion, and I need to give them an opportunity to prove themselves and help the team.

This team has big ambitions, and the season is long, so we need everyone," Football Italia quoted Chivu as saying. Earlier, the coach gave similar explanations for why Lautaro Martínez, Manuel Akanji, and Hakan Çalhanoğlu did not feature in the starting lineup.

In the end, Inter's journey in the tournament came to a halt as the team lost in a penalty shootout. For the first time in five years, the Italian Super Cup final will be held without clubs from Milan. In the decisive match, Bologna will face Napoli.
