Virgil van Dijk responds to Simons' rough tackle

Xavi Simons received a red card for a rough foul against Virgil van Dijk during the match against Liverpool. Following this incident involving his Dutch national team colleague, the Reds defender commented on the situation.

According to Van Dijk, Simons had no intent to injure him. However, the player noted that the situation was painful and stated it was a natural decision for the referee and VAR to send Simons off after review.

“I don’t think he intended to injure me. He caused me pain, and then the referee and VAR decided to send him off.

I spoke with Simons, but there’s no need for anyone to know the details of that conversation,” Van Dijk was quoted as saying by Goal. As a reminder, Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2–1 away from home.

The Merseyside club is currently in fifth place in the English Premier League standings.
