Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery openly commented on the team's real potential this season after a 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the 17th round of the English Premier League. Despite the results, the Spanish specialist emphasized the importance of avoiding excessive daydreaming.
According to Emery, Aston Villa must assess their potential correctly. The team played against giants like Arsenal and Manchester City this season and even managed to defeat them at home in some matches. However, this does not mean that the full fight for the championship is possible.
The specialist emphasized the composition and experience of the opponents. He emphasized that "Arsenal" and "Manchester City" are tactically very well-developed teams with players of the highest level. Aston Villa also has quality, but participating in the long-term championship race at this level is not realistic yet.
At the same time, Emery praised the team's current results. Aston Villa currently sits in 3rd place in the league table, which demonstrates the players' thorough preparation for each game, their commitment to the system established by the coaching staff, and their consistent performance.
Emery also recalled that the team has embarked on a path of steady growth over the past three years, consistently competing for the Eurocup zone. However, he emphasized the necessity of maintaining modesty and not forgetting how hard the points are earned.
