The club "Rostov", which played a significant role in the career of Eldor Shomurodov, the striker for the Uzbekistan national football team, may soon cease operations. This was reported by renowned insider Ivan Karpov, citing reliable sources.
According to available information, the club lacks sufficient financial resources even to organize winter training camps ahead of the second part of the Russian Premier League season. Reportedly, "Rostov" currently has debts amounting to 4–5 billion rubles. The most alarming aspect is that players have not received their salaries for several months: some since October, while others have been unpaid since September.
Experts believe that even if the club manages to somehow finish the current season, its chances of obtaining the RFS-1 license required to participate in the next — the 2026/27 season — are very slim. This indicates an uncertain future for the team.
As of the winter break, Rostov ranks 11th in the Russian Premier League standings with 21 points. Although their sports performance may seem decent, financial issues are driving the club into a serious crisis.
For context, Eldor Shomurodov transferred from "Rostov" to the Italian team "Genoa" in 2020 for €9.5 million, a deal that was recorded as one of the largest transfers in the club's history.
Currently, the situation surrounding "Rostov" is raising serious concerns not only among its fans but also within the entire Russian football community. The club's fate may be decided in the coming months.
