Kavazashvili Says He Believed Safonov Would Be Player of the Year

France's Le Parisien recently named Matvey Safonov as Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) best player for December. This achievement by the Russian goalkeeper was commented on by former USSR national team goalkeeper Anzor Kavazashvili.

It is known that in a recent Intercontinental Cup match, PSG defeated Flamengo, largely relying on Safonov’s four saves in the penalty shootout. "After saving four penalties, is there any doubt that he would be named the best?

I even thought he might be recognized as Player of the Year! Safonov performed a miracle in a single match, saving four penalties and etching his name into history,” the expert was quoted as saying by Sovetsky Sport.

Safonov joined PSG in the summer of 2024. Since then, he has played a total of 21 matches for the French team, conceding 16 goals.
