Transfermarkt has published a new ranking of the most valuable defenders in world football. According to it, Arsenal centre-back William Saliba has edged out his rivals to take the top spot. The 24-year-old Frenchman is valued at €90 million.
Second place went to Barcelona’s 18-year-old talent Pau Cubarsí — €80 million.
Third spot was taken by Inter mainstay Alessandro Bastoni: the 26-year-old defender’s transfer value is also listed at €80 million.
In short, it’s an era when defenders have turned into “gold.” Saliba is on top, while Cubarsí is making headlines with a huge price tag at just 18. By the way, Transfermarkt previously named Gianluigi Donnarumma the most valuable goalkeeper as well.
