Manchester City head coach Josep Guardiola discussed Erling Haaland’s condition after the first leg of the League Cup semi-final against Newcastle. City won 2–0, but Haaland failed to register any goal contributions.
Guardiola said at the press conference:
“I hope Marmoush returns soon and we can give Haaland a rest. Erling is really exhausted!”
The 25-year-old Erling Haaland has scored 26 goals and provided 4 assists in 29 matches across all competitions this season. His output is crucial for the team, but Guardiola stressed that Haaland needs rest because he has been forced to carry a very heavy workload.
Meanwhile, another key City player, Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush, continues his Africa Cup of Nations campaign. Today, January 17, he will feature in the semi-final against Senegal with Egypt. The player is expected to be ready to help City in the coming days.
