How Hans-Dieter Flick reacted to Xabi Alonso leaving Real

Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick shared his view on Xabi Alonso stepping down from Real Madrid. Flick said such things happen in football, and that he has always had a good relationship with Alonso in situations like this.
“This is football, these things happen. I have a good relationship with Xabi: we met in Leverkusen and have stayed in touch. I wish him nothing but the best. I’m sure a great project will come his way soon. He’s a top-level coach and there’s no doubt he has a bright future,” Flick said.
In Flick’s view, it is important for a club and the squad to trust the coach. He stressed that decision-makers should support the manager, and in this case Real chose to back the coach. At the same time, Flick pointed out that coaching comes with great responsibility and that it affects decisions within the club.
Flick also spoke about the trust shown by Barcelona’s president. He emphasized that it is important for the club to become one big family and work in unity. “The president said: ‘Not only the players, but the staff, the club’s management, Deco, the players’ relatives—we are all one big family,’” Flick said. He added that he felt this culture during a tournament in Saudi Arabia.
According to Flick, work at the club should be built on team unity and togetherness, and this plays an important role in achieving success.
