Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta spoke about Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi, explaining the circumstances behind the Argentinian star's departure from the Catalan club in 2021. Laporta emphasized that the decision stemmed not from "lack of desire," but from the need to protect the club's interests.
According to him, the management did not want to sign a new contract, as it was believed that it could be detrimental to the club. Laporta emphasized that Barcelona should stand above players, directors, or presidents, stating that they tried not to deviate from this principle. He called this one of the most sad episodes for himself personally.
