The next second leg of the Champions League playoffs, which qualify for the Round of 16, has concluded. In the match held in England, Newcastle United hosted Karabakh at their home ground and won 3-2 in a goal-scoring, open, and spectacular game.
In fact, most of the intrigue had already been resolved at the very first meeting. Because in the first match, "Newcastle" defeated their opponent with a score of 6:1 and practically resolved the issue of the next stage. Therefore, in the second leg, the English were less pressured, while the Azerbaijanis fought for the honor.
The match started at a very fast tempo. The hosts opened the scoring in the 4th minute, putting even more pressure on the opponent - Tonali scored the first goal on the scoreboard. Shortly thereafter, in the 6th minute, Joelinton scored the second goal, giving Newcastle more peace of mind.
However, Karabakh did not surrender. At the beginning of the second half, Duran reduced the deficit, adding more interest to the game. After that, Botman scored the third goal for the hosts. However, the visitors managed to respond again - Jafarquliyev's goal showed that "Karabakh" fought until the end.
In the end, the score was 3-2, and Newcastle United won for the second time, advancing to the next round with a two-match lead.
Newcastle squad: Ramsdale, Trippier, Botman, Joelinton, Tonali, Barnes, Osula, D. Murphy, Voltemade, Burn, A. Murphy.
Karabakh: Koxalski, Silva, Yankovich, Montel, Zubir, Duran, Bolt, Bikalo, Jafarquliyev, Huseynov, Medina.
