Messi matched Pele in free-kick goals

Lionel Messi scored from a free kick in "Inter Miami"’s 3-2 win over "New York City" in the fifth round of the MLS season, adding another milestone to his remarkable career. The Argentine forward now has 70 goals from direct free kicks, moving level with Brazilian legend Pele on the all-time list.

That total puts Messi in second place in football history for goals scored directly from set pieces. Only former "Lyon" and Brazil midfielder Juninho Pernambucano remains ahead of him. Juninho holds the record with 77 free-kick goals, meaning Messi is now just seven away from the top spot.

Another famous name on the list is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese striker, who now plays for "Al Nassr", has scored 64 goals from free kicks in his career. Messi’s latest strike has therefore widened the gap between the two rivals in this category while bringing him even closer to one of the most celebrated records in football.
