FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed his opinion on the possibility of the Iranian national team participating in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Infantino said: "We understand very well that the Iranian team is in a difficult and complicated situation and we are assessing the events clearly and vigilantly. At the same time, we will continue our work and mobilize all our resources to ensure that their matches at the World Cup are held in the most favorable conditions. There are no alternative plans — B, C or D — there is only Plan A."
Infantino stressed that it is impossible to influence the complex geopolitical situation, but FIFA has the potential to unite people, instill a sense of solidarity in them and create an atmosphere of peace and celebration.
