Liverpool planning to sign Anthony Gordon for £75 million

Liverpool is planning to strengthen its squad during the summer transfer window and has identified Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon as a primary target. Former striker Michael Owen believes Gordon could be a highly beneficial investment for Anfield. Despite previously playing for Everton, the England international has been a childhood Liverpool supporter. This was reported by Goal.com.

The club is facing serious challenges in its attacking line. Team leader Mohamed Salah is expected to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 season. Additionally, French forward Hugo Ekitike has been sidelined for at least nine months due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. These circumstances are prompting the Merseyside club to take swift action.

Michael Owen specifically highlighted Gordon's versatility. According to him, signing a right-sided forward to replace Salah should be a priority, and Gordon can perform effectively both on the wings and centrally. Owen described the player as "brilliant" and expressed confidence that he will play a significant role in this year's World Cup.

Newcastle is not intending to let their star player go easily. Gordon's contract at St James' Park runs until 2030, which may lead the club to demand a transfer fee in the region of £75 million. Liverpool aims to entice the player to join their ranks by securing qualification for the Champions League.
