English clubs prepared to pay £60 million for Rafael Leao

Two English giants — Manchester United and Liverpool — have entered negotiations regarding the transfer of AC Milan forward Rafael Leao. The transfer value for the 26-year-old Portuguese star has been set at £60 million ($81 million). Both clubs are aiming to secure the player before his market value potentially skyrockets following the 2026 World Cup. This was reported by Goal.com.
AC Milan management has indicated a willingness to sell Leao to balance the club's financial situation. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, at least two Premier League clubs have submitted official inquiries regarding the player's salary and transfer terms. While no official bid has been made yet, the parties are attempting to reach an agreement before the June international break.

Manchester United highly value Leao for his ability to play across any position in the forward line. Liverpool, meanwhile, view him as a suitable successor to Mohamed Salah, who announced he would leave the team in 2026. Leao has managed to score 9 goals in 25 Serie A matches this season.
The success of the transfer will largely depend on whether these clubs qualify for next season's Champions League. While Manchester United has nearly secured its place in the tournament, Liverpool continues to fight for a spot in the top five. The main phase of negotiations is expected to take place in early May.
