Manchester United is taking steps to sign AC Milan forward Rafael Leao. The English team is prepared to offer several of its first-team players in an effort to lower the transfer fee. Goal.com reports on this.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Mancunians have identified Leao as a primary target to strengthen the left wing. They plan to include Manuel Ugarte, Marcus Rashford, or Joshua Zirkzee in the deal.
AC Milan typically demands only cash for its stars. However, the opportunity to acquire experienced players currently competing in the English Premier League could change the direction of the negotiations.
Leao's current contract runs until 2028.
The Portuguese player's contract includes a release clause of 175 million euros. Nevertheless, AC Milan management is not against starting negotiations at around 50 million euros.
The 26-year-old winger's relationship with the club has cooled slightly.
The Zirkzee option is expected to be particularly interesting for AC Milan. The Dutch forward was on the Italian club's radar even before his move to England.
He has not been receiving sufficient playing time this season.
Rashford is currently playing on loan at Barcelona, and his future remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Ugarte has been left out of the starting lineup, and his agent, Jorge Mendes, is seeking a new team in Europe for his client.
If Leao leaves the team, AC Milan will have to rebuild its attacking line. The club has included Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sørloth among the main candidates for next season.
